Americana, Indie, and Alt-Country don’t get much better than Shelley Rae Speck. With an expressive voice and lyrics that pull from a treasure trove of uneasy beginnings and the joy of storytelling, Shelley is authentic.
Offering a three-octave range, and diverse vocal textures including falsetto and yodel, her voice has been described as "aching, raw, an arrow shot from the heart with the ability to pierce the soul of the listener."
Her songs reflect her early years in Missouri’s rural towns and Ozark summers, and gospel choirs.
"I grew up listening to gospel choirs in churches. When I first started to sing I was certain that I'd sound like Mahalia Jackson, and was startled to hear a lilting soprano come out!"
Shelley has worked with everyone from Meredith Brooks to Katey Sagal, and her band Speck opened for Mister Mister, Melissa Manchester, and the Sparks.
As a published songwriter, Shelley has collaborated with Grammy winning artists including Greg Wells, Angie Rubin, Kurt Farqhuar and Meredith Brooks. Shelley has crafted numerous songs for film and television, including “Beverly Hills 90210”, “Rookie of The Year”, “Worth Winning,” “Dark Angel,” and “Won’t Back Down,” starring Viola Davis.
Shelley Rae Speck and Dream Loud Productions recently released the first single from her upcoming debut EP, "The Bottle's On My Side." The single debuted in the Top 50 on Amazon Music's Hot New Releases sales chart while receiving increased airplay on Americana, Folk, Country, and Adult Contemporary stations, as well as adds to top Spotify playlists.
The single was produced by Grammy Winner Greg Wells and features Val McCallum on electric guitar. Shelley performs her own vocals and background vocals and plays all acoustic instruments on her recordings.
"My music is a reflection of my life experiences and emotions. I am constantly experimenting with different chord progressions and melodies, and I let my intuition guide me when it comes to songwriting. I believe that the best music comes from the heart."
Shelley lives in the Coachella Valley which serves as a backdrop for her songwriting influenced by Dolly Parton, Joni Mitchell, The Pretenders, and Emmy Lou Harris.
Current listens include Billie Elish, Lorde, Beyonce, Ed Shearon, Hayley Williams, and Lil Nas X.
"I love performing live and thrive on the energy of the audience. I have played in various venues, from small coffee shops to large concert halls. My live performances are always filled with passion and energy."
"I grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to a variety of musical genres at a young age. My love for music led me to take up the guitar, and I have been playing ever since. I draw inspiration from a wide range of artists, from Bob Dylan to Beyonce."
